practical shotgun in bedfordshire

well, i have just got myself a nice 1873 pump for CAS, but i was wondering if there are any places i can go try a bit of PSG?
i know Broomhills used to do it, but since they went all upmarket i think they have stopped it

Harlow Rifle and Pistol Club do it at their fairly recently built ground out the back of Dartford Shooting Club. Its about 1.5hrs away but thats a pretty standard travelling time for PSG.

There are UKPSA mini-rifle comps held in both Bedford and East Barnet though so they might do lvl1 type PSG too. Drop Vanessa Duffy an email i'm sure she'd be able to find something near you vduffy16(at)aol.com

i used to work round the corner from there, so that is a definate possible, only downside is i wouldnt be able to go there until the end of november as i am working on their october visitor date :(

been talking to a friend that does clay pigeon, he suggested taking it down to have a practice with it, but he brought up a question of can i use a sec1 shotgun for clays, or is it just up to the site owner?

the only permission my fac has is for target shooting at H.O. approved clubs or suitiable range for the firearm.

so i did some digging, seems they have left the shotgun permission off my FAC, I should have one that says i can use it for bwss or psg, and i should also have slug ammo added to my ticket, but have been told i cannot use a sec1 shotgun at a clays range. only for target shooting

seems my mate asking this has been a very good thing, even if it does mean i can't use it for clays

ITSC allows sec 1 shotty use for clays aswell as PSG.
Also allowed on the 25yard range.

My FAC says "for use only at a approved range" or something like that, so I take it as meaning that I can shoot any of my guns at any range that allows them.

Highhart clay range for instance allows sec 1 shottys but you must only load two cartridges.


... Thinking about it though... as a piece of land does not need approval for sec 2 use, then I suppose that not all ranges may be "approved".

It's in the latest guidance that S1 shotguns should (and, in my case, are) be automatically conditioned for clays in addition to the requested condition. However, this must be specified on your conditions, do not assume you can if it isn't written.

The decision to allow them on the premises or not is for individual clay grounds.

You do need "12g slug" specifically on your ammunition section to buy/possess solid slug.

well my discussion with my FEO covered a few things

i have a sec1 due to belonging to the BWSS, for cowboy action shooting. but i wanted to take it to a local clays range to put some cartridges through it, and basically get to grips with it a bit, as the competition shoots with the BWSS aren't really the place to shoot it for the first time.

the only condition on my licence only says 'target shooting at a home office approved club or on a suitiable range for the firearm (or words to that effect as ticket is not in front of me)'

so I rang my FEO to ask if i could shoot it at a clays club, they said that i am missing a condition on my ticket for the shotgun, as it should have its own one that says it is for psg target shooting at a (psg organisation initials) club/ comp or bwss club/comp. or words to that rough effect as i didnt write it down. they did say that as a part of that condition i should have also had slug ammo added onto my ticket too.

they have asked me to return my ticket for this condition to be added along with the ammo. he kept saying that it is a new condition, but that it should have been put onto mine, as it is now the only condition for using sec1 shotguns for psg etc. and as i had no specific condition included for the shotgun, which i need to have

he told me i cannot use it at a clay club, unless i am doing PSG there

hope that makes a bit more sense??
