I believe BamBam was referring to (as was I) the rather obvious incongruity of the apparent want of Mr Houghton to ban "military clothing" for what are basically PC reasons whilst using what could be deemed by certain people (the "permanently offended" members of the public that Mr Houghton appears to be attempting to appease) to be an un-PC turn of phrase. Personally, I just think it's a rather odd term to use and harks back to rather dated views.

Must have missed your comments but that's by the by. PC is stupid enough without it being selective! In fact very few thought to comment as such, even though they were invited.

The problem you have is that the public differentiates between real guns and airfoft. Airsoft is a game and part of that game is both looking the part but also being unseen (from what I've seen, I've not done it myself) so camo has a real purpose (both psychologically and practically). Most non gun enthusiasts treat airsofters with a combination of bemusement or derision but are not threatened by them (that would be silly, they arent real guns, toys, play soldiers all the usual insults etc) so their tolerance of such visible presentation is higher - they chose to laugh rather than feel threatened.

With real guns the fear is the overriding response, its a real gun, that could kill me, oh my word he must be a nutter - Daily mail crap that we often see so add a bit of camo and the fear factor is magnified (for them). The question is that as a group do we pander to those fears and downplay how we look to satisfy that? On the one had I see the that we should be allowed to chose what we wear, surplus stuff is cheap, hard wearing and for stalking etc a necessity to some extent. Some shooting disciplines require you to get wet - CSR is a good example and then cheap and water proof are the important requirements over and above looks.

The question is which is more important, our freedom to wear what we want when we are shooting or is it more important to present a more acceptable image of shooting to the general public, regardless how twisted their view already is?

I believe your freedom to wear what you want when shooting is equally important. Sportsmen in the UK already go out of their way to keep a low profile, the sport is a legal past time why the hell should you have to hide or project anything.
