Re: fac variation
I agree mine states:
.223 / 5.56 (for my Steyr Aug)
and
.308 / 7.62 (firearms authorised to be purchased or acquired)
.223 / 5.56 (for my Steyr Aug)
and

Re: fac variation
Common sense dictates that they are one and the same for all practical purposes (without opening the 7.62x51mm /.308 can of worms again) most RFD's in my experience will ignore this anyway and regard .223 and .308 the same as the metric military equivalents when selling ammo...
Re: fac variation
Just bear in mind that if your FAC states 7.62x51 and 5.56mm and any firearms are defined a such calibres, you may have problems if you wish to take said firearms overseas, especially if traveling by air, as such calibres are regarded as munitions of war and as such it may be difficult to take them out of the country. G4S and the Border agency can be rather pedantic on the matter.
Re: fac variation
Call your local firearms dept to see what they accept, not all of them follow the same guidance

Re: fac variation
put down both versions of the calibres, its what I did, it won't hurt, and you will just get some grief down the road at some point when you want to buy .308 when you have 7.62x51 on your cert.
