Just an update,
Spoke to BASC who recommended that I either gave in and fit cheap monitored/dialer alarm or I tell them that I feel it is all ok and ask them to either reject or accept my variation with the intention of taking them to appeal at court if rejected.

Myself and my Dad decided to give in, he's busy with work and I begin uni again in a couple of weeks, the idea of appealing just seem worth it. We got our friend who is an alarm technician in (he works freelance for the Family's building company). He reckons he can get a separate dialer alarm fitted in just the secured area where the guns are stored and will do so in the next week.

Call up the FLD, get told that's not good enough as it will only call who we tell it to and not a company, we told them we are more than happy to add the police onto the call list, that is still apparently not good enough. FFS what is their obsession with private companies??

How much is a monitored alarm, inc install and services? Also what is the protocol if it is monitored and it's triggered? Do they contact the police directly?

Dave, I reckon given the mentality over there about guns you would lose if it went to appeal. Because it's about guns and the if they fall into the wrong hands thing the appeal court will probably come down on the side of the Police.

The advice BASC gave you, have you thought about passing the the Police rejection on the type of alarm back to them? Let them fight the Police, I take it that's a part of what you pay your membership for.

I pay £20 a month for a monitored alarm, I think its a fair price when its covering the whole house and belongings as well as your smoke sticks.
how my one works is that if one sensor is tripped the alarm company contact me, if this fails they continue to contact people on your list of keyholders, if a second sensor is tripped that is when the police attend, if it is a false alarm you can contact the company to cancel the police visit, if this happens more than twice in a year they can get a bit arsey, fair enough though.

Mine is £25 a month, fully monitored. All wireless sensors, and the control panel is cellular. The fee also covers an annual on site check up/inspection.

I got an offer of free installation too.
