Reload Swiss /TR140/.308

#1 Post by buck52 »

Just completed a recipe for a .308 & 150 grn bullets.
Very pleased with the final result, unfortunately the Chronograph decided not to record the last velocities due to strong sun.
I will add to the post later.

Well done :goodjob: although I would think that you're probably close on max pressures

What MV is that giving you from your 18" barrelled Sauer - the muzzle blast must be pretty violent from that length of tube.

I've just about to go over to RS50/TR140 from N140 in a Sauer 200 with a 23.5" bbl.

Hi
Did not get the last MV's as the sun was hitting the cronograph
I will post the velocities soon but I would expect them to be in the 2650 region.
No muzzle blast thanks to the Spartan moddy, I would'nt want to fire it without it on though!

You are correct, that is the maximum load from Quickload.
I started at 45.50 and worked up from there, I did not detect any visual pressure signs such as a stiff bolt and all the cases look fine, maybe the primers on the final load were a little flattened.
I am nervous about using a max load but the rest of the groups were crap, an inch or more

Remember that all reloading manuals, Quickload etc will have a safety element built in due to possible litigation issues so I wouldnt panic too much. Judging by the group it works, if you've not got issues with the brass or bolt lift then you're golden..

Mind you i bet its a bit a a hand full out of an 18inch barrel emrolleyes

It does buck a bit, tried it a while back without the moderator on dusk, I just had to hear how loud it was, nearly set fire to the stubbles!

If I was you I'd look at starting at a much lower load probably 42 gns, you'll find that there will be an accuracy node lower down which depending on what distance you're needing will likely be sufficient.

It'll be a lot more pleasent to shoot and less hard on you, your rifle and your neighbours

I need reliable accuracy out to 300ish yards.
I started at 45.50 grains and the velocity was averaging just 2513, @ 42 grains I would imagine the trajectory would be like a rainbow snapped in half!

I appreciate what you are saying and I know speed is not everything, but at this rate I seem to have everything with a 150 grain bullet.
The recoil aint that bad honestly, and with the moderator on, which it will be its not so loud
