Hornady training ammo .223 what shoud I expect?

#1 Post by Hairydavey »

Local rfd had these in stock for £16 for 50, proper Hornady 55 grn boat tail but steel case hence price (don't reload so doesn't bother me).

Anyone shot this stuff before? Just wondering how it groups at 100m.

It'll be the Russian made stuff...made by Wolf or Barnaul or whoever

May be a change from Privi...but if you want to use Russian made why have it after its been on a USA tour first?

Not Russian made Wolf or Barunal, it's made in the U.S. by Hornady.

Fair point, I thought I'd ask here as I tried out Barunal once and the results were somewhat comical. I was kind of praying that it would be at least able to achieve some kind of group, though probably asking a bit much considering the price!

Just reload, cheap and accurate. That said, I would try them.

I have about 600 Wolf that I never shot, from before I started loading (free to good home btw). I pulled the nasty cheap bullets and added a 55-grain Nosler ballistic tip. They shot to about 3/4-inch at 100 yards. And scarily, you can reload the steel cases just fine too.

I bought 500 rounds of it a couple of weeks ago. I have fired a hundred rounds or so in my AR15. It goes bang every time, is reasonably clean, and reasonably accurate at the distances I am shooting (100 yards). I have only shot service rifle with it, so no bench rest grouping to determine its real accuracy potential. Seems pretty good value for money.

As you chaps have had reasonable results with it, I'll pick some up and see how I get on. I had to ask on here if anyone had used it, as I've used steel cased Barunal in the past and even though every round went bang, they were not very accurate or consistent.

It will be going through an AR15 with a 1-9 chrome lined floated standard profile barrel, I don't expect stellar accuracy but 2 or 3 inches @ 100m would be o.k. for me, it's purely for plinking really.

As for reloading, my wife and I work full time, and when I'm off work I'm looking after a 10 month old child so time is somewhat of a rare commodity unfortunately.....maybe one day!

Well I shot some of this today at 100m. 10 rounds into a 2 inch group which I could improve if I did my bit more I think. Can't complain for the money! smile2
