Hey that's cool man, whatever works for you. I did try something similar but just couldn't get along with it hence buying the repo job. Enjoy your shooting bud.

Me and my father are about to go down the same route - he needs a 'scoped rifle that he can shoot from a bench up to 600 yards; so we've bought a nice Mk2 No.4 and intend to give it the 'sniper' treatment - It's going to have an Armalon mount, and we're going for a modern scope...

...we're thinking about putting the 'T' type cheek-piece on it...would this be damaging the rifle...?

Hope you don't mind me hitch-hiking on your thread Dellboy.

Dougan, it's going to have to be screwed in place mate but if you intend to leave it on there, then why not. If you don't want to do that then one of the easy non smith easy on/off types would be the way to go. Having tried both types I prefer the repo type.

I don't plan on selling the rifle at all so it makes no difference to me.

I'm not worried about taking monetary value off the rifle, but wouldn't want to upset the 'purists' either...it's a tidy rifle with all matching numbers etc...

...I'd like to find a traditional cheek piece that's a close match to the existing grain and color...so not inappropriate...

You need quite a big cheek piece mate as the things were designed to be used with Irons, the 4T cheek piece is quite a lump held on with bloody great brass screws mate.

Im only taking the p*** as usual John, do what you feel fit bud

Fit a harris and I will never speak to you again though :shakeshout:

I get it in the neck every time I mention wax to Phil Rose (He sorted my No4), "It has to be Danish oil" apparently

I noticed you taking an interest in the guy shooting the AR with 'no mod cons' on Century...and I get what you mean...

...but my old man needs a decent (thus Enfield tongueout ) rifle to shoot on club days...and I might even have a crack at CCR (classic class)...I assure you we will take good care of the rifle.

Oh and btw...thanks for you novel offer to luster up the leather on my TR jacket on Sunday razz

Sounds like a Swede Mauser may be a better choice...the Swedes trialled a nice leather cheekrest for scope use on same too.
Much nicer classic rifles than a No.4

We already have an infantry version (M96) of the Swedish Mauser; and love it...but I like to shoot it with open sights - converting it to a 'sniper' would mean modifying the bolt and damaging the receiver; and basically ruining an 106 year old rifle...so not going to happen...the sniper version (M41?) is on my 'future acquisitions' list...

...but for now we'll both get great pleasure from owning our first No.4

And anyway...where am I going to find someone who can make a decent leather cheek-piece? razz

Purists! :55: them. When they start paying for the guns for me to own and use then they can have a say, until that day :55: them.
