Enfield No4 no Gun smith mount

#1 Post by Alpha1 »

I thought you might find this of interest. This is a typical after market scope mount for the No4 this has been tucked away in a box for longer than I can remember. To fit it you remove the rear sight and use a long screw supplied with the mount to secure it to the rear sight. The ejector screw is removed from the rifle and used to secure the mount.
I'm not sure if you need a longer ejector screw to retain the eject feature not sure I can not remember that far back.

Those mounts are not very good. There are now far better non gunsmith Enfield scope mounts on the market. If I were you I'd throw that back in the box from whence it came and not try selling it to anyone

The second one is the better of the two. I tried the first one years ago and the problem I found with it was that the ejector screw wouldn't stay tight enough to make a reliable platform for mounting a scope.

I agree with you the Armalon is a better mount more robust.
If you have tried the first one and found it to be not up to the job then Ill take your advice and shove it back in the box.

I've just taken a no gunsmith B-Square one off a number 4 rifle the thing was more like a diving springboard than a scope mount, it was next to useless.

Chapuis, I reckon the B-Square jobs are about the worse of the lot of them mate. The one I have when I use the rifle for deer hunting is the Armalon mount. It's rock steady and does the job well.

I've got a B-Square scout scope mount for my M96 - It's not ideal, but fitted properly (wind the grubs down that prevent the 'springboard' effect) and combined with a Hi-Lux LER 'scope; it has proved very handy for load testing and longer range plinking.

I have checked the mount out and it looks pretty solid to me before I trash it I am going to fit it to a NO4 and try it. I will make a longer ejector screw and fit it with a lock ring. I will let you know how I get on.
