.357 on indoor ranges

On the OP - we can use factory .357s on our range, but it depends on who's there and what everyone is doing - there could be newbs shooting air, or others shooting leagues - sometimes members will bring their LBRs and BP pistols but not use them if that's the case...but have some noisy fun on quite nights tongueout

I've yet to see a cast boolit at ANY velocity punch a hole through a steel plate or go right through a sand back stop! And yes, I HAVE tried - very hard!

'mainly lead bullets' - says it all doesn't it!
I saw a perforated steel plate at the Louisa Centre in Stanley from some pillock using 7,62 FMJ full loads.
As I said, I have yet to see a steel plate perforated (or even scored) by a lead boolit.
There is a lot of ignorance out there!

While I would generally agree with you on that point Rog I have personally seen steel plates buckled and weakened by thousands of .22 rounds over a considerable number of years at the end of a small-bore range proving the necessity for regular inspection and maintenance. I therefore wouldn't entirely rule out the possibility of this happening.

Saying that I just love it in the old western movies when the bad guy shoots the steel padlock off the Wells Fargo strong box that he has just thrown down from the stage with a .44-40 or .45 lead bullet. :lol:

The issue here is poor maintenance over time and use rather than the penetrative ability of a cast boolit round on its own.
