Idle question to the custom rifle builders here - Tikka T3

I have just been advised the X Ray is for short action T3, the Whiskey 3 is for both short and long actions. We will be stocking both the X Ray and the W3 chassis.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought that all Tikka T3s were long action? And that all looks calibres used the same magazine but with a filler block depending on calibre? PS do you have a link to your store or can I pm you for details?

The barrel on the other hand as I stated in the post it pretty much has to be the Armalon hammer forged barrel, I am not interested in cut or button rifling. As Armalon appear to be the only people who supply one it kind of has to be them (I realise that does mean having to deal with Peter).

Why does it have to be Armalon? There are other sources of hammer-forged barrels and these can be fluted by various outfits here in the UK.

Well it doesn't have to be Armalon, I just always got the impression hammer forged barrels are hard to come by. If there are other sources like the chassis I open to them.

On the other hand I have seen some good results with the Armalon barrel and I like giving the business to a British company.

Hallrite also do hammer forged barrels here in the UK however I only have experience of Armalon which are good albeit quite pricey once you start adding things up. Keeping to the British theme you could look at Arthur Smith and there is always Border barrels although I have not heard anything about them and the move recently.

I must admit I always thought the T3 action was one size and they just put webs in the magazines to suit the cartridge, I would assume they move the bolt stop as well to control stroke length. I will ask the question again smile2

I have not listed the chassis in the shop yet and I should not really list anything price wise outside of the Vendors & Innovators section so I will add something in there.

Why don't you base your project on Tikka T3 barrelled action - Tikka make excellent barrels?

Tikka make only the one action length and control the bolt stroke for various calibre-groups by means of different bolt stops.

Barrel is too short on a standard T3, I want at least 26".

That makes sense - I'd prefer to see some longer options from Tikka on certain calibres.

I made a couple however they worked out very expensive so I did not progress any further. One is on a rifle here and one was sold.

I have shot a T3 with a third eye tactical chassis at the club and I am sure it used AI magazines?

It had a polymeric mag anyway.

Could be wrong though.

It is very very very nice indeed.
