Hello, what's going on here?
I was whittering on about the practice of telling hotel receptionists that you've got firearms in your room, but then thought about it a bit more.

Try reading the link - she spoke to the Mail herself.

I agree, a police statement would have been nice... inasmuch as it would have said nothing more than "Police Scotland are committed to upholding equality and diversity and investigating potential crimes where they are reported to us".

Speechless!

Chuck when independence comes can I take it that you will be putting your name forward for Scottish ambassador to Turkey? Why don't you say it as you see it mate.

I have to admit what an absolute nonsense of a story. Four hours, that can't be right can it. kukkuk

Why tell the hotel that you are carrying guns in the first place, surely that's the start of the breach of the security measures that you will have taken to ensure the safe keeping of your guns. I have travelled with firearms for many years both in this country and abroad and never encountered any problems whatsoever. All it really takes is a little prior thought and the provision of a few adequate security measures.

Something doesn't make sense here - all of the CG2014 rifles/pistols/shotguns (and ammunition) were stored in an armoury on the Barry Buddon site. It's also not clear of she is an official CG athlete either - she might have been an 'extra shooter' to even up the numbers - but if she was her shotgun would have been stored on site.

From the article -
Miss Carrie was staying in a different hotel to the Team England shooters, having been drafted in at the last minute as a ‘filler’ – who can shoot for any team which is unable to field the required number of competitors.
Plus it said she arrived at the hotel at 1130pm after driving up, could this be the reason she wasn't storing her shotgun at Barry Buddon that night?

So what is the procedure?

Depending on how I feel about the place, whether I'm in the room or out and about I either leave the gun I the car, bolt removed and anchored via the trigger guard and locked the bulkhead or I take it into the room, don't make a fuss, don't actually tell the staff (answer if asked but don't offer the information) and then in the room follow the same procedure, bolt out, anchored to fixed point (radiator usually).
