For this comment you've obviously read a lot about them and never shot one. You would be surprised to know they are exceptionally accurate in straight pull with the right ammo. Surprised me too hence why I kept mine

Very true, my SVDS will shoot 1moa with quality ammo so I can't see the SVD being any different.Groups open out to 2-2.5 moa with milsurp "machine gun" ammo but with that said it will still do what its designed for which wasn't round after round through the same hole on paper.The Russians had a dedicated sniper round, the 7n1 then later the 7n14 round, which are equivalent to match grade ammunition and very hard to come across.The reason the Dragunov is described as "inaccurate" (usually by Americans who haven't seen one in the metal let alone shot one) is that most are shot with cheap ammo and wrongly compared to a true sniper rifle when it is infact a designated marksmans rifle but the Russians have no real terminology for a DMR so it is called a sniper rifle.It was designed to extend the effective range of a squad equipped with AK's and in this role it is perfect for taking out officers, radio operators and emplaced machine gunners etc.Everyone that has shot my SVDS has been more than a little surprised at how accurate it is.
I would sooner shave my eyeballs than sell mine.

I can attest to the accuracy, having shot them in Imperialist .308 and the peoples 7.62-54R flavours , they are lovely rifles to shoot....I would suggest if someone has found otherwise, it might be more to do with unfamiliarity of the type, "Russian style" scope ranging or Stalingrad surplus ammo!

I really like them and would happily make room in my cabinet for one!

I don't think Polemass was serious about accuracy issues, he was saying that the rifle would 'sulk' and not shoot well because you used coffee to barter over and not vodka........I think

Well my stock arrived from Russia yesterday and is darker than the handguards I've got so dropped them of at a furniture restorers this morning to get them matched to the stock.The guy reckons it will be £25-30 to do them and it will save me the hassle of trying to stain them to match myself.The detachable cheekrest has also arrived along with an original Soviet Afghan era dropcase and I'm waiting on a sand coloured Afghan era sling to arrive.Once its all together I'll post some pics

54r is easy to reload, get some PPU (Privi) ammo fire it, (or buy new ready to reload PPU but full length size first) (keep clear of S&B brass) clean the brass, neck size brass will last longer, use Sierra Matchking 174gr (.311 dia) bullets same as a .303 any large rifle primer and I use Hodgdon H4895 but any powder like N140, Ramshot Tac etc will be good.
