Positioning of safes.

Am a probationer and all being well, made a full member. Then start the FAC process. One thing I have noticed while looking around for cabinets, are the hefty premiums being charged for hinges to be on the left hand side. Where the cabinet is going to go, necessitates hinges on the left side. Now, I can understand that these might be one offs from a production line point of view, but £70 or so extra on top? Anyone else finds this somewhat exorbitant?

Absolutely. I got a left hand one recently, and was shocked by how much extra it was. I understand that they use the normal right hand cabinets and doors, just with some minor modifications (on my left hand hinged one the lock is the other way up to the right hand one for instance). I hasten to add as well that was the one on which the door fell off while it was being put upright. Was it this 'modification' that weakened it? Maybe coincidence but my 3 right hand hinged ones have been fine....

Thats annoying. Hope the supplier was quick to arrange for a replacement or what it something you managed to sort out yourself? Please may I ask which make/model was it?

To be fair, they were great at dealing with it. When I told them they arranged for it to be collected that day, and sent a replacement within a week. It was a Brattonsound MT9+

You cannot fault Brattonsound for service. I wanted a secure store for my cameras and lenses - what better than a gun safe? Called Brattonsound and specified a standard cabinet with internal top box and two extra shelves. Additional cost - £10.

Could always get a non lock top, mount it "upside down" (epoxy a plate over the top if the holes both you) and a separate ammo safe (which you want anyway)

To be fair thinking about it there's no reason a lock top would object to being upside down.

Could always mount your ammo safe directly above if possible and cover the holes that way.
