Steve E, I'm guessing by your post, that there is truth behind the RWS brass story then. I think I'll start looking for some then :)

What RWS brass story are you talking about?
It is all based on good reloading technique and testing in varied temperatures. The same could equally be said about Lapua Brass which has the same weight and capacity as RWS. I only mentioned RWS as that is the brass that most of my ammunition is loaded with.

All I know is during a thread on pushing the 308 to over 1000yds on another forum, a reputable source said that like for like loads in Lapua vs RWS brass was faster by 50-100fps in the RWS brass with no pressure issues that was showing with the lap brass at the same velocity, but, I wasn't shooting 308 at the time, so may have read it wrong. But, I'm at bisley soon, so I'll get some there, as my brass is getting pretty worn. Worth a try I guess [FACE WITH STUCK-OUT TONGUE AND WINKING EYE]

That said, I think some of the F/TR lot were muttering about it being too hot, it does say that it likes light .308, but is quoted as being H4895 like.

From memory TR140 is RS50. Wherever I have used N140 I have needed approx. an extra .5grin of TR for the same velocity....is it me?

Check out the reload swiss data, at least this stuff should be available (unless the septics buy up the factory!!!).

Very attractive option that I will look at when I Re-barrel/run out of the 3 ton of IMR4895/N140 I have.

RWS Brass is bloody good, I bought some a while back before I went over to Lapua Palma, its attempting to collapse my ceiling with the federal I got given from work......

NO WAY !!!!!

Take a 308 Win 155gn hot load with H4895 and knock 2-3gn off and you're about maximum with N-C El-N110 / RS40. N-C El-N130 (RS52) uses loads that are very close to VarGet in .223 with heavies, 6.5X47L with 123s, and 308 with 155-190s, but gives higher MVs in each case without excessive pressures.

TR140 / RS50 giving a 155 3,000 fps from 26-inches of barrel? At proof load pressures maybe.

Re RWS and Lapua brass. My examples of them, both dating from 2012, have near identical water capacity after firing in my minimum SAAMI chambered rifles, and also have near identical neck thickness. I expect and get the same MVs from them. I can't see how RWS gives 100 fps higher MVs, short of some serious load and pressure changes. In same capacity cases, it takes 2gn of Viht N140 and over 7,500 psi peak pressure change to move between 2,850 and 2,950 fps in a 30-inch barrel (QuickLOAD).

I'm assuming we're comparing apples to apples here - ie standard large primer Lapua to RWS. Lapua 'Palma' brass with Small Rifle primers sees a 40-50gn fps drop over LR primed brass in a 30-32 inch barrel with any given weight of powder.

Reload Swiss will be launched nationally later this year presumably with the full range available. If so, that's four pistol and eight rifle grades, although two of the latter are so very slow burning they'll have limited appeal to most shooters - Ultra Mags and 338 LM / 50 BMG applications.

Sorry matey, sittng here looking at the RS comparitive burn chart it states that RS40 is in line with H4895, the next least offensive burn is Varget.....so right next to = pretty close.

What it does not do is say how close Laurie, which I think you have just answered. I take it that RS40 is the powder that the lads have been talking about...something along the lines of "For god sakes dont go over 45gn"?

HPS was where I scrounged the brochure from Steve, they seemed to have plenty of RS Branded tubs about (rather than the re packaged TR140 tubs we see).
