Tu I believe that an underground range of 200 metres or so in length is planned or currently being built at Stirling lines but that will cost us the tax payer millions of pounds.

Yes that might just cover the first stage of the development, well at least the truck park. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/ ... -base.html

If your refering to the Mitchell Elms Farm range then that has never been an FDPC project. FDPC have been approached by the developers asking for their support in the planning process and FDPC has been offered access to the range when it's built but it would never be FDPC's "range" we would just be one of groups with access to the range.

Full planning was granted about 5 years ago now.

Is it going to happen? There is no way that Mr Hobbs would sink that much money in to the project without following it through to completion. Having said that there is no rush on this project. Andy is a bussiness man and with the slump in the economy over the last few years there has not been the demand for tipping and he isn't going to loose out on the opportunity for recouping his costs.

I had a meeting there a few weeks ago with Mr Hobbs. About 30% - 40% of the tipping has been done but nothing has been tipped for at least 18 months. They don't know when tipping will resume. They don't know how long it will take once tipping resumes. They have decided not to build the Skeet Layout that they gained planning permission for as they can make more money by filling in that area of the site with more tipping. They are not prepared to offer FDPC a lease of more than 5 years.

Where does that leave FDPC? Well at the last AGM the membership put forward a motion that was passed by the membership tasking the incomming committee with finding a new home for the club. I'm now on a sub committee exploring all possible options for the club from a disussed military range to commercial property. When the club has a solution I will post it up here.

When someone says "it's not about the money" you know what? it probably is all about money!

Andy at East Midlands Regional Range (the club and his own RFD business) has been trying to get a range going for a few years now - might be worth a chat as he's done some pretty serious leg work on getting this going. It's not for me to disclose the trouble he's having but I'm sure if you called he'd be more than happy to discuss.
