Storage outside the home and continuing to shoot.

I'm after some advice about storage at a location other than your own home.

I'm about to move house and have started to move my rifles out to alternative storage. As I'm moving into a rental temporarily they will probably stay there for a bit. I am assuming that I won't be able to use them during this time as I won't be able to get them in and out of the storage on the same day.Can anyone confirm that this is the case? If I went to a shoot far away I'd store them in a hotel overnight and take suitable precautions. Does the same rationale work in this case too or not? I'm going to chat to FLO but would like some advice from you guys first.

Do you mean into a RFD's storage.

If so then when we did this some time ago once on his books he was not happy to keep signing them in and out, so while in storage we did not shoot, around 6 weeks. But as we know different areas have different guidelines they go by when firearms are concerned.

What does you FAC say?

If it says in an approved armory then that's either one inspected & agreed as with the FLO/club or an RFD.
If it says in a secure etc place then you have a bit more latitude.

Can you store them at the club? I did this for 5 years with my FLOs most happy agreement.

There are a few threads here on storage in rented & landlords I think the conclusion is you can fit a cabinet or clamp, best with their agreement & make good on leaving & they by law should not enter the property anyway & if they did then may be committing a civil & statute act?

If you were staying over in a hotel then you might do something like: Trigger lock, secure rifle in car (Bike lock) in locked case, lock+ alarm car, park in lit CCTV place, keep bolt & ammo with you in cash box. Or with Hotels agreement keep rifle with you in room & don't leave it there but again trigger locked & locked case.

If you came home after a shoot too late to return rifle to store / club - so a day or so later then then do as per hotel & return to store. (its with you for the purposes of ..) A club should keep a log of Serial No vs dates in out & signature or initials so you keep one in your diary too. so a couple of days 'out' is defend able a week possibly not?

Why not get a small one or two gun cabinet and fix that in the rental accommodation - possibly using steel cables and padlocks. You can then at least store the rifle overnight whilst you are there.
