Refused/rejected variations
Purely curious here. Have you ever had, or heard of, a variation being rejected or quietly ignored/left off by a firearms licensing department?
No story or anything behind this, it just strikes me that FLDs should be better employed vetting grants and renewals rather than altering documents and printing/posting bits of paper.

Re: Refused/rejected variations
No. Not really asked for anything unusual though (3 x 22LRs and FAC Shotgun about the most "exotic").
Re: Refused/rejected variations
Not a variation per se....but an application to have a couple of guns put down for vermin/deer use
1st FEO does all the checks, phones me to let me know that Yes, all is ok, but the FAC with the changes will not be signed off prior to his leaving the dept.
Told to phone back in a week or so
Do as advised.
2nd FEO. 100% different attitude. NO!
NO checks have been done. No changes have been made to my FAC, it's not about to be signed off. No FEO had done ANY work re. the application.
Almost a year later, 2nd FEO comes back: land check failed, NO change to FAC conditions, go away....
He was most surprised to be told that the land check HAD already been passed for a couple of other shooters.
Still never got the permission. I've had similar results from the same 2nd FEO a few times.
Get ANY another FEO = all goes without a hitch: 2nd FEO - Oh, we have to take every case on its merits....and...I'm not here to stop you enjoying your sport...

Re: Refused/rejected variations
Never had any variations rejected at this end, but then again I've never asked for anything particularly exotic. At various different times Cambs, the Met and Essex firearms licensing departments have all been pretty reasonable.

Re: Refused/rejected variations
I just got my 4th .22 B/A rifle approved by Durham but they wouldn't increase my .22 ammo holding from 2100 to 6000 - meanies! How will I get by now?

Ditto re. the ammoBlackstuff wrote:No variations refused but i've had 2 requests to up ammo limits turned down
The FEO (same chap as above, the 2nd FEO) assures me that his office does not work to Home Office guidelines...so past attempts to get S.1 s/g ammo increased in line with said guidance fell on deaf ears. About 5 increases later, my max. allowed is still well under H.O. suggestions.
Have had a couple of issues where a variation was granted & they missed off the ammo entitlement by mistake
One of the best errors was when my FAC came back with a Rem 870 description altered to now being down as a Semi Auto
Re: Refused/rejected variations
The whole ammo thing, particularly at these sort of quantities, confuses me. What nefarious thing can you do with 6000 that you can't with 2100?dodgyrog wrote:I just got my 4th .22 B/A rifle approved by Durham but they wouldn't increase my .22 ammo holding from 2100 to 6000 - meanies! Sooner or later I'll be looking to up mine from 1500 I think on the basis of different rifles liking different ammunition.

Re: Refused/rejected variations
I had mine upped from 1500 to 3000 no problem after 1 year of having my FAC. Just said buying in bulk from the same batch to get more consistent ammo.zanes wrote:The whole ammo thing, particularly at these sort of quantities, confuses me. I do have 5 .22LR firearms though.
Next up is 6000

Re: Refused/rejected variations
Not quite a refusal, but I was advised I must have an alarm system once I go above 8 firearms. I had applied for 11 (5 extra) as I understood 12 was the limit before an alarm was required. Still once I had the alarm fitted, the variation was granted no problem. I'm pleased as it turns out, as it has brought peace of mind.
