Out of Nowhere
I happened upon this book whilst looking for books to load onto my kindle for a holiday I will be going on in a couple of weeks time. Forgive me if it has featured on the forum before. It looks like it might be an interesting read.

Re: Out of Nowhere
I gave my copy away years ago, I got fed up with the inaccuracies.
I thought it pretty poor for someone who used to work in the Royal Armouries.
Still it is selling cheap enough now.

Re: Out of Nowhere
Well I am no expert but it was irritating me, an old friend of mine (now deceased) who was an expert and had contributed to the authors research from his extensive collection and knowledge was seriously under impressed when it came out and he was a man to know about such things.

Re: Out of Nowhere
The problem is the content submitted by the author is often slashed by the publisher to make the book more readable or keep it to a required size. We were talking to Bruce Potts the other day. Bruce is the author of Sporting Rifles and if you read the reviews everyone says it is outstanding however it could have done with even more technical content.
Apparently the content was in the original manuscript however the publishers chose to reduce the book by two thirds!

Re: Out of Nowhere
Aye. Martin knew of the errors & such like, most as have been said were down to "input" from the publishers....
I know of another author that had a book at the printers. The publishers said it was 2000 words or so too long...but they FIXED the problem for him, they omitted the last 2000 words of the manuscript!!
Off out now. Range time. Taking the bangstick shown on p.206 (of Out of Nowhere) out to top up its suntan

Re: Out of Nowhere
Doubt that all of the problems were the publishers. The section covering the Finnish Winter war has incorrectly labeled rifles and has a large picture of a Finnish sniper with a line saying that it is Simo Hayha. It isn't.

Now there's a back-pawed compliment if ever there was one. Still, the job's not over until the paperwork is done...
