Gun Parts from U.S for Saiga 12
So i've been getting more into practical shotgun and i've been wanting to alter my
Saiga 12 around abit. I picked it up for £550 and it runs flawlessly with heavier loads like slugs and triple A shot, but its hit and miss wether it cycles ok with lighter bird loads i've tried adjusting the gas settings on the gas plug and it hasn't really made a difference and i have found one on amazon usa that will supposedly deal with this situation as is has settings to allow even more gas into the system but i am curious as to am i allowed to import these? or will companies such as Brownell's ship to the UK? i am also wanting to change the stock, at the minute it has a skeltonised folding stock (welded so it doesn't fold) but i want to change to an ar15 style stock is this something i can do myself or do i need to get it done professionally and can anyone recommend a gunsmith with experience with Saiga's? Iv'e looked at Rus military but everything is out of stock and almost no indication of when anything is due back in stock.
Any info is greatly appreciated
Thanks
Andy

I believe the stock is welded open so the Saiga complies with the legal minimum overall length for a shotgun. The folding mechanism is in the rear trunnion the same as a side folding stock AK and it isn't possible to change the stock without changing the rear trunnion. This would be more hassle than its worth as even if you did swap out the trunnion you would be left with holes in the receiver on both sides where the push button for the stock mechanism sits.
Rusmilitary's AR15 stock adapters are designed for Saigas/AKs that are fitted with a fixed stock and the corresponding fixed stock rear trunnion with a tang.If you Google "AK rear trunnion types" you'll have a better idea of what I'm on about

Why not fit some Soviet laminate wood handguards, get a couple of Bakelite mags and a brown Bakelite pistol grip for a Khyber Pass AKM look.Jackmanuk wrote:i have the same issue with my AK , it has the folding stock but ithink the wood ...would look so much better but im in the same boat of need to change the rear trunnion which i CBA with the cost an hassel

Mine is a Vepr12 but there are quite a few options for the Saiga without removing the rear trunnion.

So how do you get round it then?, the rear of a sidefolder trunnion is solid so a stock adapter won't slide in and if you remove the latch mechanism and the button you're left with a hole either side of the receiver.I suppose you could drill a hole through the rear of the trunnion and fit a stock adapter with a nut and bolt once the adapter has been fettled to fit in the end.breacher wrote:No. There is always a way.AndyUOC95 wrote:ahh ok so a different stock is out then

Pic below is a side folder Saiga rear trunnion with the stock closed, showing the solid rear end.The rear trunnion and stock locking mechanism are significantly different on a Vepr.

The hinge part with the stock was removed and replaced with a hinge part purpose built as AR type.
There is a company in Germany who supplies the adaptor.
There are also quite a few US companies offering adaptors and stocks.
There is so a US company doing AR compatible rear trunnions.
