Anyone repair shooting jackets?

#1 Post by Watcher »

Just come back from a lovely sunny day on the ranges and noticed that the suede on the inner elbow of my Tucker jacket is tearing - again. I've tried sewing it up but its just tearing in another place. Is there anyone out there that does repairs? It would be shame to chuck it - not to mention that a new jacket costs a couple of hundred!

Wouldn't most/some local clothing repairers be able to handle it pretty easily?

Edit: "Tailor". That was the word I was looking for...

Thinking it might be a bit specialist because its such thick canvas? Have found one place via Google (GB Leathers) but wondered if there were any recommendations.

I took my motorbike jacket, some of the stitching had gone in the leather, to one of those old fashioned shoe cobblers, did a great job.

Might be worth a try if you have one in your area.

'Nine Lives' are a bike leathers repairer based in North Camp, which is close to Bisley. Chris is used to working with leather and canvas in shooting jackets. He's done three or four jobs for me and I've always been satisfied with the work and the price, and I know quite a few other shooters use him including some high profile guys (Commonwealth gold-medalists, for example).

I can have a look at it if you want...

Repaired a few canvas jackets in the past, and have enough suede here to assemble three bionic pigs
