The cheapest way is to tie a piece of string to a plastic bottle , tie the other end to the trigger and fill the bottle with water from a cookery jug so you know the amount of water used till the trigger fires .

For as long as I can remember I have used a tin can with a wire hook and fill with sand 'till the trigger breaks then weigh the can, hook and sand on a set of balance scales measuring lbs and ozs.
