"Unless he has another suitable rifle to use it in, spare parts and all that.
NB the bolt doesn't go on the FAC, you just need to have an FAC with something you can use it in."
I think you are most definitely mistaken there Mattnall and need to speak to either your shooting organisation or your FEO on that matter.

Re: Scrapping a rifle
A bolt body is a pressure bearing (licensable) item, yes you can hold one as a spare however you need to have the necessary entry on your FAC. The parts inside it are a different matter.
Re: Scrapping a rifle
Do not try and scrap the rifle yourself - it will cause more problems than it's worth.
Equally do not surrender it to the police. It will result in it being added to H.O./Police firearms statistics, that are unfortunately often used against legal shooters.
Instead take the complete rifle to your local RFD who will happily take it free of charge and may even pay you a small amount, if it contains some parts he may find useful. He can than scrap it if required and simply inform the police of its destruction.

Tiff is spot on with this, if it has to be culled give it to an RFD to do so and life will be a lot easier. As long as he gets a barrel, bolt and receiver he *should* be happy to do the job.
