Scope Creep

#1 Post by Mail2pete »

Hi guys, can you please provide me advice on how to stop my scope creeping backwards in its mounts during a days shooting. The mounts are tight and although I don't know the make they are of a good quality.

I noticed that they have moved about 1/4 inch during a days shooting.

ooh not good, personally I would get the torque checked on the screws, or have a look at some new rings as it sounds like they are not up to the job.

just my tuppence

Has it always done this?

Sounds like you need to replace your mounts to me.

As a quick fix you could insert a piece of shim steel but it's a bodge to be honest.

PM me if you want a piece of shim steel to effect said bodge.

A good 4" self tapper should do it.
You may need a pilot hole first, as they can sometimes get stuck on the inner lense assembly otherwise...

Post pics of how you get on

Technically, a pilot hole is called the cockpit...

Though in fairness to Equal Opportunities and the fact that the RAF now has lumpy pilots, it may be renamed the Box Office.

Pete, are the rings as tight as they can go?
I've got a new set of rings with some kind of fabric tape on the inside, might be with trying something similar, grip tape maybe?

I don't read my own signature!
