can any of our American members help with shipping to UK?

#1 Post by Primer »

Just wondering if we have any friendly members from across the pond that can help with shipping?

I'm after buying 10 of a certain tool, the part is not export restricted and the company is happy to sell and ship to me but they only use FedEx for shipping to Uk which is expensive, the package is 1.6kg and the part is about $27 a pop but the company want $18 for preparing an export order, then $64 for shipping, $11 for presenting to customs plus $48 for import duties (i take it that's what I would be charged by uk customs for importing), so with shipping and duties it adds about £10 to a part that only costs £15.50 from seller.

I'm not looking to circumnavigate import duties but do wonder if there are much cheaper ways of shipping, be it get them shipped to a US address and then sent on to me from there?

I wish I had kept in contact with a guy in Texas that I used to get campervan bits through as he just used to use Uspostal services.

My friend in the US for shipping is called BundleBox. You can find out how the cost compares using the shipping rate calculator here. The shipping may not be any cheaper (it is certainly fast), but you will at least save the 'preparation of export order' fees, and tax and duty are pre-paid so there's no waiting cycle. If you can get it packed in compact packaging, and perhaps bundle with other orders, you may save more.

On top of import duties you will also pay VAT on the total value. 20% on $270 is another $54

+1 for Bundlebox, it has a calculator on there that tells you exactly what you'll have to pay inc. import tax etc

I've signed up for bundlebox but my order was refused (by another company) since I have a non US debit card.

Anyone able to offer any suggestions? They said I can use a US post office money order as an alternative though I've no idea how to get one here.
