Yes but Karen, according to Dromia there's no point selling NRA memberships to people who have just attended a Bisley Open Day (even in his beloved 'Bisley-Centric NRA'), which must mean he agrees with cancelling the Open Days. His suggestion is to simply 'live in hope'.
Alternatively keep making improvements to the site, be more open in communicating issues and management thinking, continue to be more customer service aware and things can only continue to get better.
Open days at other locations I expect will require considerable local help, why don't the Scottish contingent look at something North of the Border.
We did look at an Open Day in Scotland but it was too difficult - mainly because of the problems in booking Barry Buddon (Blair Atholl is too small). Shame - I would have enjoyed that one as its lovely there.
Has anything ever been organised at Diggle? Have they even been approached? It's quite accessible for a lot of the North and north Midlands compared to some places.
Has anyone ever done a geographical study of shooters? Shouldn't be too hard and would help locate ranges with the best potential.
I don't know what the NRA require so don't know if this is feasible or not.
You need a large multi discipline range or one that you can use a variety of firearms on to make it as interesting as possible on the day.
You need people to put up posters and contact local media.
You need a lot of local people to get involved - coaches, RCOs, ticket sellers, car park guides, site guides, helpers, etc plus as many different firearms as possible.
You need a food outlet or some sort.
With Altcar the NRA sold the tickets, liaised with local media and then about 6 or 7 members of staff would attend to help set up the day before and then do the admin and promote the sport on the day. The NRA would also bring the ammo and firearms needed.
Just for the people who choose to misunderstand, misinterpret and misrepresent.
When saying I wouldn't advocate people joining the NRA it applies to those who don't use Bisley therefore people who can get to Bisley to shoot I do think it is worth joining. Therefore the Bisley open days should be good for recruitment.
I also said that the open days were worth having away from Bisley even if you couldn't get to Bisley because of the understanding of shooting it promoted.
Hope this helps the blinkered.
But as the NRA doesn't seem to see the merit in open days, even for their Bisley centric policy, any more then the argument is meaningless.
