Tumbling Media

Some interesting tips here, I've just started using my Lyman tumbler and green media I had for Xmas and its a pain in the ass to dig the odd kernel out of the flash holes, also I did a load of .38sp, .357 and 9mm the other day and most of the cases were jammed packed full of media when it had run for a few hours, so the inside of the cases didn't get cleaned, did I do something wrong, maybe too much media?

Primer, could be you put too many cases in at once or as you think too much media. When I do mine I usually de-prime after I have tumbled the shells. Only takes a few minutes to clean out the flash holes.

Yeah the 1st batch I cleaned were some .303 cases that were cleaned before I got them but I cleaned them again after I had resized them, the pistol cases I left the primers in to eliviate that problem but then the media just got rammed inside the cases, I probably had 300 cases in there but I will try less media next time and see how it goes, might try putting the car polish in there too as mentioned above, I've got a load of .308 cases in there this time so will see how they come out.

Do you need to tumble cases twice as it says in my book do them before resizing and then again after to remove the resizing lube, if you do then i'm tempted to just get a ultra sonic one to remove the resizing lube?

Primer, 300 hundred cases is probably a little too many. I usually throw in around 150 - 200 at a time. As for the case lube, I use RCBS carbide dies as they don't need lubed with those dies and saves a heck of a lot of time messing around. If you're not using carbide dies then just give them a wipe off with a rag instead of messing around with other case cleaners.

If you aren't using RCBS carbide dies for pistol rounds then I highly recommend them, The dies for 38/357 comes with a spacer/washer, set it up for 357 and when or if you want to switch to 38 then just add the spacer to the die, screw it back into your press and away you go.

A wee bit confused.....u chuck bits of kitchen roll or old t-shirt in dry or wet them in car polish?
