RCO course

#1 Post by dodgyrog »

Well, I'm off to pick up the pieces after last week's ENORMOUS screw up (thank you NRA).
I've got to re-motivate a bunch of good candidates who I had to send home early and try to get them through the day successfully.
Wish me luck (them too).
Purveyor of fine cast boolits.
All round good guy and VERY grumpy old man.

Our club sec says he can sign people off as RCO qualified.

Makes a nonsense of the NRA course IMHO.

You mean as RCO's for your club only as opposed to NRA qualified RCO's?

Some clubs that shoot on private ranges and/or not DE ranges (MoD) can nominate club RCO's instead of going through the NRA for the course and qualification. One example is at the Diggle ranges where they have their own in house RCO course (I think this is because of the different disciplines they shoot and range layout)

As long as the RCO's have some form of training in how to conduct the shoot then all well and good.

Maybe to the satisfaction of your club only, but not to anybody elses satisfaction and certainly not the NRA/MOD.

I would certainly prefer an NRA trained RCO watching my back to someone who was signed off without any training :(

I agree Ovenpaa, how often have you seen club range officers that don't know their arse from their elbow and simply think its a matter of strutting around and lording it over the other shooters. If a problem arises they don't know what to do, fail to address it, and don't have the necessary skills or knowlege to prevent a potentially dangerous situation developing.

Results are in
5 candidates:
1 no show - domestic problem
1 failed himself when he realised what it was all about - a lot of respect to him.
3 passed - well done.

We gave 'em HELL on the range and they managed to survive.

Who's next - any takers?

I am all ready a NRA RCO having completed the course I would all ways prefer a trained RCO as oposed to some body signed off by a club official.
