I certainly wouldn't trust a GP to give a report, we moved just over a year ago and my son has only been to our new Gps once, that was to let them know we were applying for his sgc & fac, GP of course had no idea who he was and said he wouldn't supply a report anyway as he doesn't know him.

At our last practice the idiot GP who sent in a report when we applied for his sgc actually said "I feel that it would not be safe to grant Jared a certificate at this moment in time". This is from a GP who only saw him twice when he was about 8 or 9 for an ingrowing toenail and knows nothing about Aspergers or ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders). It's taken a formal complaint and 2 year to get a psychologist to refute his report. The new report (from someone actually qualified and who knows what they are talking about) shows he has no aggression or violence issues and apart from his social awkwardness he's a perfectly nice young man.

Durham will have had his application for 4 months next Tuesday, they contacted his clay pigeon club in early December and one of his referees about 3 weeks ago but none of the other 3 clubs he's a member of or his other referee.
There's room for all Gods creatures, next to the mash and gravy :)

I know Avon & Somerset contacted my dr (even though there's about 4 of them at the practice and its lucky dip as to who you see when you go) as I was in there one day and the dr was looking for a chest xray result on screen and what she opened by mistake was a scanned copy of my firearms application (possibly just the page where you sign for authority to obtain medical records), even though the only medical condition I had at the time was Gout.

With my professional hat on, I would love to hear from anyone who has been negatively affected by this police-enforced blanket disclosure of medical records. I remember reading an anecdote on another forum, years ago, of a bloke who had a heart condition saying he was put under terrible stress (in so many words) by his FLD because they didn't understand the cocktail of drugs he was on prior to a heart operation and decided the usual dire health warnings on the packets were grounds to push him to "voluntarily" surrender his ticket, with the veiled threat of revoking and dragging him through court if he didn't give in.

May have been nonsense, of course.

A guy at my local clay club got one of these letters last month and he's told them he's not going to provide the report. The response seemed to be 'oh well your renewal won't be prioritised/looked at any time soon' or something to that effect, but they haven't said they're going to refuse him the renewal. Considering Durham just took 5 weeks to do my basic variation he could be in for a long wait! :roll:

This absolutely stinks.

We pay BASC to represent us; they need to be shouting this from the rooftops - poor processing is the threat to safety, and it is just getting worse.

Folks;

FYI

I have just renewed my certificate with Lancashire Constabulary and there was no requirement for me to provide or pay for a supplementary medical report. The whole process took around 3 weeks and was fairly painless. The FEO in particular was top notch.

They have been in talks with various FLD's and in particular Durham. At the 2nd off last meeting Durham agreed to drop the scheme entirely because of the amount of hassle they were getting from shooters, BASC and GP's. However, apparently at the last meeting Durham has said they're going to continue with the system as they've got some doctors willing to cooperate!? ****

Info from my clay club secretary who'd spoken with BASC on behalf of the member that got one of the letters.
