Probationary period for new shooters.
For tyro shooters without an FAC is the six month probationary period with a club before becoming eligible for full member ship obligatory?
Or could they just turn up go through whatever safe shooting training the club may have, become a full member after passing, say a three hour club course and then fire off their FAC application to plod. Would plod accept this?

It's three months, and it's a legal obligation thanks to the Home Office conditions for approved clubs. See page 3 here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... -clubs.pdf

Re: Probationary period for new shooters.
Although the law says 3 months, most clubs I know have a 6 month period just because you don't often get enough time to assess and instruct a tyro in the shorter period.

It's 6 months at our club, precisely so we can get a good impression of a newcomer...

Re: Probationary period for new shooters.
Twelve attendances in six months off the street or six in three months for FAC holders at mattersey. When I served my first proby stint I did my three months, got elected full member, sent in my application then waited six months for my certificate - in excess of nine months start to finish.
Would plod accept an application from a probationer to get in the queue for processing before becoming a full member does anyone know? My girlfriend is on about joining the club, she already has SGC so waiting a full year would seem a bit harsh!

It was working when i left it...........

I believe you can put it in early since theres a good chance they wont even look at it for a month and take 2 more to call you or your club. when i did my fac application i put it is at month 4 and got it month 7 (due to them being busy) and they never called the club or either of my referees , just me to say they want a home visit

From latin, ooman.
tiro, noun, a recruit or new beginner
By using it, in its mediaeval spelling, Dromia is showing his age of course, whereas we are just being an educated kreecher.
