Melville bay A cannot be used by clubs

#1 Post by Gaz »

One for the Bisley-centric clubs - you can no longer book a lane on Bay A as a club. Today the Range Office refused to let us have a lane and instead insisted we booked a full bay and paid the half-day rate, when we only wanted one lane for an hour. Everyone present vetoed that; we didn't bother spending the extra money that we wanted to.

And the reason behind their position..?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Correct Melville bay A cannot be booked by clubs. Bay A is reserved for casual shooters who can book a lane by the hour, the other bays can be booked by clubs.
Unfortunately as Gaz is not an individual member he cannot book a lane on bay A in his name. If there is low demand for Bay A, it may be possible for clubs to book a lane by the hour but individual full members have priority. It's really quite simple.

This came as a surprise to us as previously our club has had no problem securing an hour on Bay A as a concurrent activity to fullbore shooting or for zeroing rimfire rifles.

I didnt make a fuss at the range office - they did try and make a genuine alternative offer in good faith, which we politely declined - but it did throw a spanner in the works for our future Bisley activities. And deprives the NRA of another small revenue stream, something it seems to be getting an appetite for.

Second post has a different "feel" to the first post, Gaz. Initial spin then editorial retraction....?

That aside, if it's there and available, why not? Just give individual members priority. Bit like certain seating on the tube....?

Not really - the facts are still the same, I'm just trying to be nice for once!

I can appreciate them not wanting to have clubs on Bay A. However since there were three of us looking for a casual hours blatting whilst waiting for the LMRA spoon target to come available it would have been nice to be able to jump on bay A. At least we know for next time.
