OAP ripped off for antique rifle.

#1 Post by paulbradley »

I work at a care home for the elderly during the week. I was sat with a new resident today, a gent who has become to unwell to live alone. He had his solicitor sort a house clearance for him so he can sell the house and pay for his care. He showed me the paper work of the sale of cleared goods. It was shocking. They had bought all his beautiful antiques for a fraction of their worth. One example stood out.... 18th century percussion rifle, walnut stock, excellent condition and working order.. £80. It made me really angry that these vultures can take advantage of peoples vulnerability. God knows how much that will fetch in a private sale which is no doubt what they will do with it..

I know of a fairly recent house clearance, there were some nice items as well. The people were charged to have the house cleared and told any valuable items would go to auction and they would get the proceeds.

You can guess the rest.

DISGRACEFULL!!!!!!!!!!! GRRR

I thought I was doing well by donating stuff to Help the Aged (or is it Age Concern) when my old fella died, they even STOLE stuff from the house and denied they had it even though some was actually on display!!!!!

Never again! Oh and NEVER let a lawyer deal with anything like that, parasites.

Agree^ I only wish I would have known sooner. I could have introduced him to the joys of eBay and stuck the rifle on here at a fair price.

That's what the paperwork said and was probably wrong. The old boy said it was simply a working antique rifle he had acquired many years ago. Whatever it was, it was old and worth way more than £80...

Probably 1800 and something, many make the mistake of putting that down as 18th Century, not 19th.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

Do you think you should get on the outrage bus before knowing what this supposed antique actually was?

Does it matter? A working antique rifle with walnut stock for £80.. We all know that is ridiculous. Sorry I can't get the details to please all the nerds. You'll just have to deal with it.
