It seems up here, the Police Scotland budget comes straight from Westminster via Edinburgh!

Re: Council tax police precept
can someone explain how the Police can cut services, cut staff, cut overtime and still after all that cost more? something I have never been able to get my head around!
Re: Council tax police precept
They don't cut the massive salaries and expenses at the top, nor do they cut, or even control their spending. A full review would make interesting reading I don't doubt

Ken, it is down inflation, that thing that seems to hover at around zero percent according to some.

Not all of police funding comes from the council tax. Most of it comes from central government. It is this funding that has seen a 20% cut. My force so far has lost 500 officers and some 1000 support staff since 2010. The force has been told it has to lose another 100 officers.
So in short, the police levy on the council tax has gone up by a couple of quid a month, but central funding has had the ar$e kicked out of it. I read somewhere that by the time the cuts are finished, in England and Wales there will be fewer constables by some 16000. Fewer support staff by some 15000 and just over 1000 fewer PCSO's. 33000 staff cut. What happens to that workload of those gone? It just gets spread around because it doesn't go away. That thin blue line is somewhat faded...
Tell me one other "industry" where such swathing cuts would not have marches on the streets and pickets outside of buildings? Trouble is, the police have no industrial rights, a few coppers have been utter plonkers which has sapped the public support and the papers will have you believe that we're all corrupt and incompetent....
G4S policing is just round the corner! Wait till that council tax rise is going straight into the dividends of share holders....!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I was treated a damn sight better as a serving soldier than I have ever been as police officer.... And all whilst prepared to, and have come close to, making the exact same sacrifices....
