Council tax police precept
Straw poll apropos nothing: how much is the police precept on your council tax?
I have a half-formed idea in my head that our police precepts plus FAC/SGC fees more than covers firearms licensing departments' overheads. Just wondering.

Re: Council tax police precept
My council tax includes £157 precept Thames Valley Police. I more than cover my share of the polices costs for firearms licensing.
Re: Council tax police precept
Not sure as the papers are not to hand however I did spot that the Police precept is rising by nearly 2% for 2014.

I might be showing a bit of ignorance here and confusing things too boot but you guys who are also business owners with premises i.e. RFD's etc... Pay business rates as well. Is any policing included in them?

The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.
Re: Council tax police precept
Well there is a story. When we started the business we had the chap from the council come in and check the dimensions of the workshop and work related areas. He made copious amounts of notes, took photographs, listened intently as we explained the business. Apparently we were border line for the business threshold and as far as he was concerned we were a new business and should not be worrying about such things and that would be his recommendation. He went on to tell us if the council disagreed and did put a rateable value on the business side of things we were to get down to the council office ASAP and ask for information on start up rates packages. His opinion was the council takes a very favourable view of new businesses and he would be surprised if we had to pay rates for the first three years. we are at the end of year two and true to his word they are still our friends.IsleShoot wrote:I might be showing a bit of ignorance here and confusing things too boot but you guys who are also business owners with premises i.e. RFD's etc... It was refreshingly good news for us and in answer to your question, I have no idea idea cos it does not apply to us.
I guess a lot of people would not share such information however I am a great believer in new businesses and if this helps someone to make the first step towards such a venture then fair play!
