I thought was an offence under the Proof Act to sell or transfer an unproofed barrel - so it should be already proofed, unless NI isn't subject to the Proof Acts?

The seller may well have broken the law. I'm fairly sure that there are particular laws that apply to the transfer of firearms and components between Northern Ireland and the rest of the U.K. There certainly were a few years back when Viking Arms fell foul of these laws and at that time they were actually supplying the R.U.C.
I think the RFD has every right to be cautious.

I've just been trying to read the legislation.
The barrel proof act was extended to NI and Scotland, so it looks like they could have committed an offence.

Sandgroper, Barrels that are not in Proof can be transferred RFD to RFD. Selling them to an FAC holder whilst not on Proof is a different matter.

Ok, been to my RFD. Seller is going to get a talking to from the police (mainly over how it was sent, recorded mail labelled as a metal tube), all ok on my end and I have the barrel. :good:
