Just seen this thread - well up for it at Bisley!

Here's a suggestion. Instead of trying to herd all the cats into one location, why not have (say) a Diggle shoot and a Bisley shoot for each end of the country? Nominate some trustworthy RCOs to fill in butt registers with people's scores and email them around. Or even post them on here, in the spirit of the forum...

As for the NRA member guff, that can be got around. BrunelTR (OK, me, with him doing the range bookings) can organise the "competition" necessary for covering the legal/insurance side of people turning up to play.

No details as yet but I have been approached by the NRA to look at rules and match conditions for Historic/Classic Service Rifle Matches especially the .303/Service Rifle rules for the Phoenix Meeting.
I am trying to get the rules back to how they were when the SMLE and No4 were the issued rifles, so everything will be in the spirit of the original and based on the pre 1963 Bisley Bibles. As soon as there are details I will let you all know.

That has already been taken into account. Courses of fire will hopefully be based around 8 or 10 rounds but NO MORE than 5 rounds to be loaded at a time, that means mandatory reloads. I want all service rifles prior to 1945 to be eligible. Two classes, Service Rifle (a) to a design prior to 1918 and Service Rifle (a) to a design post 1918 but no later than 1945. All rifles will need to be magazine fed and reloaded using chargers/clips. There is much work to be done to sort this out and hopefully the NRA will be forming a small working group of respected Classic/Historic Service Rifle shooters to address the rules and conditions. Courses of fire should be based around the ARA and NRA Service Rifle Rules prior to 1963.

More info as and when it becomes available but it could be quite a while.

I have been giving my idea much thought and have got this far.
The event to be called "The Five Nations Milsurp Comp".
Shot at 200,300 and 600.
Approximately 67 rounds per run.
Many details yet to be sorted!

Been a busy morning but I can confirm that the NRA will be running a Classic Service Rifle Match at Bisley in early October.
The Match Conditions and course of fire are in the process of being ratified.
What I can tell you is that it will be open to all Service Rifles of the WW1 and WW2 era. Rules for all rifles will be the old Service Rifle (a) of 1955, which means a rifle 'as issued' no target sights, no slings, no scopes. These rules will be rigidly enforced.
Competitors will be required to mark targets. There will be no paid markers.
Distances are likely to be 100,200 and 300 in prone,standing,sitting and kneeling positions. Targets are likely to be Fig 11 and Fig12.
For those that are interested in what the courses of fire may be, I suggest that you look in a Bisley Bible under Service Weapons-Individual and look at the matches for distances of 100/200/300 as they may give you a clue of the likely format.

When the format is finally sorted I will open a new thread.

Thanks for the info Steve - Could be fun, and a good warm up for the Trafalgar.

I shot that course of fire at last years' Phoenix...it's perfect for service rifle; though I found the 100 yard target (quite narrow) a bit tricky standing...
