If I break the pin on my .303 and need a new one, would i therefore need to apply for a variation or is it enough to show that I have a .303 rifle on my FAC, and take the bolt along to the shop with the broken pin. Or could I just buy one anyway to have as a spare, obviously showing the RFD that I have a legally held rifle that may need a new pin?

I would suspect that having a .303 on your FAC would be sufficient 'good reason' for wishing to purchase a replacement or spare. Some RFDs may require that you show your FAC, however, some will probably not.

If a firing pin is deemed a pressure bearing part how about the extractor?

I have no issues with shipping extractors out.

To me a pressure bearing part is those parts that would be proof stamped.
