6.5x55 Tikka m55 fitted with shilen barrel final chapter.

#1 Post by Alpha1 »

Well I finally got it on the range shot home loads with 120g A max. 140g Sellior and Belliot. 142g Jacketed boat tails.
With N140 and N160.
It shoots very very very tight groups the 120g A max performed the best with N160.
Its a absolute nightmare to re load for but it does the business.
So its a keeper. THE END.

N160 is the best powder to use in the 6.5x55 , most make the mistake of getting their suggested loads from the shooting comics & end up using powders that have faster burning rates. The 6.5 requires a slow burning powder ,for best performance, while producing lower pressures. The most accurate bullets that I have used are 120gr Sierra HPBT Match Kings. This applies to my M96 Carl Gustav's as well as my current Tikka. At the range recently, I managed & .4 moa group @ 200mts which I consider exceptional for any hunting rifle. Thank god I had witnesses!
The load was 50 gr N160 driving the Sierras at an ave. of 3024fps , this is NOT a safe load for any 6.5x55 that is not SE rated, but in the Tikka & my friends' Sako 85 it is the duck's nuts.
Peter.
