Club Records and the Police

#1 Post by dodgyrog »

I've just had a pleasant couple of hours at the range this morning and shot one of my competition cards. The point of this post is that Durham Police have TAKEN WAY our attendance register.
I would have thought that a review of the records at the club would be in order and that a random sample of them would be appropriate.
Am I reacting too strongly to say I believe they should not remove the records from the club?

I would complain bitterly to your Hon.Sec for permitting this to happen .If asked the Hon. Sec. will tell the plod that he or she has attended regularly or a minimum number of times but to take away records is wrong.

A random sample would tell them nothing. I would have thought that they have to be satisfied that each and every member of the club has been in attendance over the course of the year in order to justify continuing to hold the relevant firearms. Then follow up with those who haven't to ascertain why no attendance.
Likely to take a couple of hours work to cross check the lists.

And you know what those guys are like with tea and biscuits - you'd be on permanent kettle duty and shipping in chocolate hobnobs by the pallet load if they decided to do all that checking on the premises.

Have you checked with the secretary as to what has actually happened?

So then you will know it is not as you appear to have been lead to believe.

Looks more like sideways communication that needs to be improved.

I would have thought that the secretary would be the obvious first person to contact with any issues.

At my main club, the secretary submits a copy of our user records once a year. Hampshire Police do not just come and take the register as that is needed for continued usage recording.

Sounds like your Club Secretary should be asked a few questions.
