You are right about a Fob allowing anyone to access - yes there are more combination than a pure code but it is still fallible.

As far as I know it is either a fob or code to access the system.
You are right a code is not infallible (there are several 100,000 possibilities) but with a fob you know you're going to get it right first time.
I have a 5 minute call out response time, the code attempts will waste a bit of that, a fob will give hours of time to sort out breaking in to the armoury.

I would have preferred a key code however apparently they are not acceptable and a coded fob must be used which is a nuisance, they need to be programmed and kept secure at all times.

As an aside, some alarm companies are more than happy to allow the customer to first fix the installation, that is run cables and back boxes in, they will then do the terminations, testing and commissioning of the system and knock some money off.

I also like the idea of the alarms that fire a blank as a deterrent.

The article implies it's a new idea, but a copy of 'Guns & Shooting I have from 1995 show a system called the "Stun Alarm" that discharges a 9mm blank.

Okay I suppose, but the one in the BBC article talks of a 12g blank, which would be much noisier.

In thinking about it, if there's the sound of a gun being discharged in an FAC holders house, even if the burgler doesn't leave immediately - on being reported the police would send the armed response round - so good enough for the thief in my mind.

We had a load of simple blank firers called "Alarm Mines".
They used a 12ga bp blank and had a spring loaded firing pin and the whole set up was mounted on a spike to go in the ground.
When the tripwire was pulled the blank would discharge into the ground.
Loads of noise and smoke.
Not sure if these are still available, but they could be set up anywhere with a bit of thought.

Found this on google. It is the same but ours came with the whole thing fitted to a ground spike.

ACPO no nothing about alarms the fob is a easy option to reduce false alarms. No way on gods earth would I have a fob alarm, do you have a pin with your bank card or a fob. Some on FBUK know what I do and who I work for and we do not use fobs. Individual user codes 6 digit pins with log enties of each user. Dual comm with roaming sim as first line of comms land line as back up linked to a nice central station with URN for police and no stupid fobs.

Similar here ... 6 digit codes but I do have Fobs as well however they are set up to ARM only and cannot disarm and only certain people can disarm all areas. Like yours, every entry, exit, trigger &c is recorded.
