310 cadet case flaring help

#1 Post by Alpha1 »

I have a supply of new cases for the 310 cadet I am trying to bell the case mouths to seat the boolit with out shaving lead up to now using the die that comes with the reloading die set I have had no success. I have damaged several of the cases using other expanders including Lyman and the Lee offering. How do others expand new cases for the cadet to seat the heeled boolit.

Does not work on new cases. (My question was how to expand new cases.)
If I thumb them in on fired cases the boolits drop out when you hold them up by rim I am not happy to use a live round with the boolit as loose as that in the case.

What is the diameter of the expander spud on the die set you are using?

Expanding the case mouth for a heeled boolit is no different from expanding the case mouth for a non heeled boolit.

This has to one of the easiest steps in reloading, you certainly have a gift that makes you special Dave.

Bring some cases and your expander along to night and we will look at it.

I use the Lee universal case expander dies (hated by many!) in my turret and progressive presses for the 30cal Soupcan boolits I use in the 300aac and 308Win bottleneck cases.

I set them to barely open the case mouths enough to seat, then finally I use a Lee factory Crimp die which works very well indeed.

For the straight walled 44mag cases the Lee Auto Disk powder dispenser has enough adjustment to slightly flare the case mouths during powder dropping.
