The NSRA......what is the point of them....

The NSRA confuse me. Last time I tried to shoot air pistol there (2011) I booked the lane in the club's name, rocked up with myself and a couple of other members, figured out how to work the electronics and got to work. Some dodgy-looking character wandered in and began skulking around the back of the range, eyeing up the pistols and avoiding eye contact, and it wasn't until I rounded on him and asked him to explain who he was and what he was up to did he deign to tell me he was actually NSRA staff! Subtext, they don't trust people who hire their ranges and send people to snoop on them. Never been back since.

I also let my NSRA RCO ticket expire without renewal, on the basis that in 7 years nobody ever asked me to show it once.

By the way, does the 25m range in the Lord Roberts Centre still have the pressurised water fire extinguisher in the line of fire on the right hand side?

I popped into the NSRA a few years ago to buy a single-stroke match air rifle for my club. The person behind the counter was so disinterested that we actually had to ask if anyone else was serving, at which point he reluctantly ambled over.
I asked if I could handle the rifle, and shouldered it with the muzzle pointed at the back wall behind the counter (some six feet away) at which point this ass-hole grabbed the muzzle and pulled it out of my hands, stating that it wasn't safe to point the rifle (point the rifle.........wtfwtf)
It was at this point that the smell of booze hit us and it became clear that this man was somewhat worse the wear for drink, and was obviously trying to make out that he was the pinnacle of safety......................... by being a complete t*@t.

I told him to stick the rifle up his rectum and walked out (we bought the rifle from City Air Weapons in Brum)

I complained in writing to the NSRA about this disgraceful episode.............and heard bugger-all back.

Needless to say when they finally put the cost of membership up (yet again) and I found myself no-longer shooting outside (City of Birmingham club had been closed down by land grabbers) and John Hoare had walked off with yet more thousands of NSRA ££££££s, I simply told them to bog-off and closed down my membership.
The NSRA are a complete waste of space and the reason they are broke is because one secretary after another has had their sticky fingers in the till for decades.

To be fair to the NSRA shop staff they are all different people now and are a decent hard working bunch who do their best to be helpful.

Its the alleged "management" from on high that is the problem

I had a good experience in the shop the other week when I went in to buy a shooting jacket.
However I don't see the point in becoming a member other than for the insurance, but if I get full cover for £20/year by joining f4i then there really is no point.
The president of my smallbore club was keen for me to join but when we discussed it further he wasn't 100% why it was needed really.
