Replacement milsurp iron sights to correct high fall of shot

I know it depends on the rifle, but what sort of change in POI can I expect if I increase the height of the fore sight by 'x' amount?

If it is a No4/No1/No5 or P14 changing the foresight blade by 0.015'' (as that is the incremental changes) moves the MPI approx 2" at 100yds.

Steve, the current front sight is a +045. I need to get onto the range to see how far out it is but I'm guessing that I will need a +060 or +075. From memory it's about a foot high at 300, I was shooting at ETRs though, I need to be on a gallery range really.

Correctly zero,d you should be about 6" high at 300yds. You probably only need a +060 blade. Of course it is all ammunition dependant

I have been using PPU but recently bought some S&B from the Bisley armoury, haven't used any of it yet.

:lol: That would be far too simple! I'm having difficulty with my Destroyer Carbine and Steyr M95/30. The Destroyer I can cope with, but the Steyr has a battle sight marked for 500m which is bit OTT - even for me!

I just wanted figure to give me an idea of how much it moves the MPI, .

I would fire some S&B first before changing the sight blade, my .303 shoots bull high at 300 with reloads/PPU tried some S&B from the armoury shoots a good 12" low in my rifle.

Wow, I didn't realise that there was such a difference. I guess it pays to stick to a certain brand of ammunition then.

It's totally right about it being ammo dependent; and it affects the windage as well as the elevation - It's taken me a couple of years to get my SMLE and Mauser right for shooting just under a tin-hat target at 200...still need to file a smidge more off the Mauser front sight...

...The zeros are based on one particular load for each rifle (have used the exact same load in the SMLE for 3 years), and are totally different when using any type of factory.

Yep its no good modifying the sight unless you are going to use consistent ammunition you need to learn to re load my friend.
