Gaz has given us an ideal starter.
As others have said, we should all be ensuring this article gets a wider airing - MP's and Peers as well as the press.
Wouldn't hurt to pin up a copy in the clubhouse either or add to the club website with instruction to ACT.
Good ideas mate but at the same time others need to start coming up with ideas as well. As you say the antis will keep on spouting their BS and their total inaccuracies, well the best way to counter that is with the truth, the truth will always win over BS every time. Hey even when a few of you folks get together for a shoot there is nothing to stop you getting your heads together and coming up with fresh ideas, post those ideas on here and get the take on it from others.

Most importantly though and taking nothing away from Gaz's article, one article won't cut it. Now is the time to keep the momentum going, never let up for a minute guys because as sure as hell the antis won't. Now is the time to start countering every bit of BS and inaccurate information put out there. Things like if a news paper article isn't a blog and it's inaccurate, then start flooding the press complaints people with complaints as well as commenting in the comments section.

Don't get into a slagging match with the antis in comments sections but rather present facts and the truth, as already stated the truth will always win out.

mag41, good man. Now try and get those club members to go proactive as well, even if it's just writing letters to MP's, the press or commenting in comments sections. Just make sure to tell them to keep it factual and truthful. Any BS will get found out and shot down and will just give the antis more ammo to use against you.

Cor - I write one thing in my boxers on a Saturday morning with the girlfriend nagging at me to get my arsch in gear to go shopping...

Blu - I very much take your point about the word "shooter" on board. Never thought it could be misused in that way, just goes to show how the antis already have the upper hand with the basic language we use to describe ourselves!

I really do hope this article gets sportsmen (thank you Blu) and women talking about our sport positively and spreading the gospel that we really are just ordinary people enjoying an ordinary, non-threatening sport. Plenty more where it came from, too!

Gaz,

That's a lot of what's it's all about, keep in mind that the public has been fed a steady diet of BS about firearms for a long time now. Well now it's your time, time to show the public for what the sport really is and not what the Sun newspaper and those other rags thinks it is.

To do that mate takes unity.

Okay, the letters may well go the way of most spam that drops through our mailboxes but .... there are a lot of people out there and although it may not win us any votes, at least it would show Joe Public our side of the argument and demonstrate to the 'powers-that-be' that we won't take it lying down.

I'll put a hundred quid on the table for a start if anyone wants to get this going.

Good job Gaz and thanks for flagging it up Sim :goodjob:

Cheers!

I've highlighted the £100 letter drop offer because I think it may have got lost earlier in this thread. Would a letter drop be a good thing for us or just pouring money down the drain, via people's letterboxes?

It may work if its targetted to gun owners but not as a general one. Let's get our own team on board first before we 'fore-warn' the antis...

The chief constable of Hampshire seems to have read it. He's not a happy bunny:

@gazthejournalist Disappointed to see you misrepresent the facts and my position. http://thebackbencher.co.uk/firearms-li ... -strawmen/
(I'll put aside the fact he's got my twitter handle wrong - for all I disagree with Chf Con Marsh on some issues, he has been very good at talking to shooters on Twitter)

This poster from Firearms.UK needs to be displayed on the wall in a prominent position within every shooting club in the UK for starters. I'd also suggest that all gunshops etc consider doing the same. After all, if there are no guns then there will be no gunshops / clubs etc.
