moving to new force area (met) petentional legal problems
hey,
been told to jog on from my rented house (landlord wants to move back in) in surrey, due to housing rental cost might be forced to move into london met area.....but i'm worried (due to the mets very anti gun attitude) that my FAC and SGC will be revoked the minute i move to the met area or at renewal because :-
i've got a few minor convictions from quite few years back
suffered from stress and anxiety when in college 10 years ago and once again in 09 following a serious car crash!
surrey plod have no problems with me at all. however each chief constable has varying degrees of discretion; when my gp had to send a report to surrey firearms about my stress issues 10 years ago she put down 'anger management issues' but she said that i have ok now and doing very well! i think this and my previous convictions could result in the met commissioner taking away my ticket with immediate effect or at renewal time even though surrey have no concerns at all
any advice please ???

Always found the Met quite amenable.

I started in the Met FET area, now in Surrey. I was in single room accommodation back then and knew any firearms etc would have to stay at BIsley I had no problems at all with getting my ticket.
It sounds like you are quite worried, why not phone up the FET team which covers the area you are thinking of moving to and chat with them. Ultimately it is them who will making the decission. Personally I think you have already shown that you are a safe and trusted person and they would be very hard pressed to revoke your FAC,

Does transferring force area mean the receiving force effectively goes through the grant/vetting process again on an existing ticket?
If so surely that's unlawful, as there is no legal provision allowing them to do so?

No, I don't believe so, but that said, a "review" does take place and I'm sure that's part of the renewal process. But when I moved force areas, I had a Colt AR 15, several pistols on FAC, and an 18" barrelled, seven shot 12 gauge on shot gun certificate! Oh happy days..... Things are a tad different now.
And as for legal provision, everything under UK law is legal, unless there is provision to prevent it. Unlike the Continent, where everything is illegal unless the law allows it, is a good general rule of thumb...

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Not quite complete:
In general. For individuals in the UK, everything is legal unless there is provision to prevent it. For companies nothing is legal unless there is provision to permit it.

Which part of the Met area? I was moved from one admin area and FET team to another for one renewal and the service was poor. I was then moved back and everything was back to good service.
