I don't doubt that BASC are good for their members, but their press relations leave a fair bit to be desired other than putting out press releases and then going quiet. I gather they see themselves as direct competitors of the Countryside Alliance, who seem to do quite a bit of good work on behalf of (their subset of?) shooters.

That reminds me, I have some more RSPCA bits to write up.

Gaz I are you a member of either BASC or the Countryside Alliance? I only ask in relation to what you have written above.

Neither. I've come into contact with both at the day job, and I'm commenting here on the basis of forum chat I've read (here and elsewhere) and personal experience of working, or trying to work with, both organisations and only making useful progress with one of them. Freely admit I'm no expert on either.

Having been a member of BASC for over 25 years, though I am currently not so, I would say that BASC do a great deal more to support all forms of shooting than the CA. I think that you would be surprised at the amount of behind the scenes work that they carry out to support shooters and their sport. Yes they are very good at issuing information and press releases also but that is only part of their work. The Countryside Alliance on the other hand have on occasion caused more than a slight rumpus amongst shooters by making claims in support of hunting with hounds that have cast a slur on the ability of shooters. For this reason while I wouldn't oppose the CA I can't say that I look on them as kindly as I would BASC.

Nuff said whoopwhoop I can imagine where you might have gone regarding both organisations but hopefully things have moved on and have changed. It's just my perception that BASC are much more shooter focussed than the CA.
