Licenced to Kill

#1 Post by SevenSixTwo »

To cut a long story short I asked for a shottie variation to cover clays/target, albeit with a 2+1; intending to get a higher capacity mag later on. I was denied target because I hadn't 'done a course' and wasn't a member of whatever association. Fair enough - them's the rules.

Strangely enough though, my FAC condition now says it's "restricted to sporting purposes and vermin control..." (the latter, I never asked for).

So, I can't shoot carboard cutouts and watermelons but I can blast small furry animals to death to my heart's content? Erm, ok.

I will never understand the licencing system.

Foxes are vermin, yes?   [strokes chin]

Thought Sec 1 shotguns are banned in NI?

No, we're fine with them. We still have pistols, too. ;)

Everything's on an FAC here though - even air rifles.

It while I was in NI shooting pistols that I was told the Sect SGs were banned.

Most of my club have semi-auto SGs with hi capacity magazines.

In my limited experience a lot of people (even shooters) think that s1 shotguns are illegal.

Ignorance of the law has never been a defence.

agreed, one of the things I say when explaining why the pistol ban was silly is that hi capacity semi auto shotguns are legal.
and they often tell me that "all shotguns that hold more than 3 shells are illegal" and wont accept that maybe they were wrong.

Technically of course they have a point because a "shot gun" within the meaning of the '68 Act as amended does not include a gun with a mag capable of holding more than 2 shells.

true but one person I have heard saying (or writing this) was a disgruntled Jersey resident who wanted them to make there gun laws the same as ours. (theres are basicly ours pre 1988 but airguns and shotguns are all FAC) and he said that "In Jersey you can own shotguns with more than 2 shells, in the UK these are illegal" or the person who when I said you can own a sagia 12 said "Bull s*** shotguns with detachable magazines or more than 2 shells are illegal."
