Screw in Rifled Shotgun Chokes...... Illegal?
Pretty much as the title says, screw in rifled shotgun chokes are they illegal/S5?
Putting a rifled shotgun barrel on a semi or pump gun, would ostensibly make it a rifle, but wht about a screw in choke tube? I can't seem to find any specific mention in legislation or guidance, but I may just be missing it. I've got a feeling they are, but hope they're not........

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

So these would be for slug? Nice idea but add them to a S/A and you have in theory a S5
Can you buy them in the UK or are they import only?

Yep, target shtgun. My local shop reckoned the issue of why you don't see many, if any in the UK, is because slug is S1 and not many, proportionately have the authority to possess and use, where as choke ubes themselves are "unrestricted".

Is that rifling only in the choke? Surely that will firstly put alot of pressure on the end of the barrel and secondly give the slug hardly any twist?

Someone was telling me a while ago about a UK gun maker that was building barrels for .22LR that were smooth bore with just a couple of inches of twist at the end of the barrel.

I've also been semi-reliably informed that they're S1 items

I can't imagine any more pressure than an ounce of tightly packed shot going through a choke tube.TobyH wrote:Is that rifling only in the choke? Surely that will firstly put alot of pressure on the end of the barrel and secondly give the slug hardly any twist?

What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.

Kev,
He went very quiet for a while and said along the lines of, "Why do you ask these things? I haven't got a clue, I'm going to have to do some research......"
Then I listed the things I'd already looked at!
Of course, I'm also going to have to remind him that one of the concepts of English law is that everything is legal unless there is legislation, common law or precedent that deems otherwise......!!!
I've still got a feeling though, he's going to say no!
