Firearms licensing fees will NOT rise this year

The Countryside Alliance has welcomed a clarification from the Home Office received today (6 September) that there will be no immediate rise in firearms licensing fees.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) had recommended that certificate fees for shotgun and firearms certificates should almost double in price, from £50 currently to £94 in October and up to £109 by 2015.

And what did ACPO's official firearms rep have to say? Via Twitter: "Disappointed 2 hear gun licensing fees are not to increase. Last increase 2001. Cost of licence just £50 / 5yrs 26% of real cost 2 taxpayer"

I tweeted back at him that if he's so worried about costs to the public purse the whole licensing system should be privatised instead.

Tbh I think the cal specific slots are more relevant for hunters, my feo has been happy to grant me what ever I want without a question but a friend asked to move from .22lr to .223 for hunting and it wasn't as smooth.

Feo said they are more strict on hunter and back stop assessment is important and that don't want people cooling off rounds in to the next town.

We're as when we show to the range the back stops are in place and providing your mot messing about, the round is always heading in a safe direction

Afternoon people,

My understanding ( and i stand to be corrected) from conversations with my FEO, was that the fee structure was set out in the last firearm act review that went before parliament, in which there was no provision for increases in line with inflation etc. As a result of this for an increase to be implemented it would need again to be put before parliament and the relevant section of the act amended.
The view of my FEO was that this would only happen alongside a much broader review of the firearms act and that parliamentary time was unlikely to be allocated for this in the near future, unless a major incident occured which left the electorate clamouring for action.
Is this broadly correct in terms of the legislative position/procedure? or have I misunderstood?

Once again why does a suspicious corrupt shower of cnts like ACPO have to be disappointed licence fees are not going up. High time all these private companies that pose as police officers were shut down! Maybe they should filter more of their spurious profits back to REAL police.

Actually, why should we pay anything?

Every householder pay a precept through their council tax for the local police force to cover police activities. Everyone pays for the "lost property" service - but not everyone uses it. Anyone wishing to make a street or house-to-house collection needs a licence - is that charged for? No. And those are a lot more complex than an FAC and involve plenty of checks before issue, financial auditing afterwards and more.
