Bringing firearms back from the US

I'm off to Florida tomorrow and will be visiting some firearms dealers. Should I come across a good deal on a shotgun or UK legal rifle (Remington 700 or Spikes22 for example), what would be the process on bringing one back with me?

Will having my FAC with me be enough? Go through the red lane at Heathrow with a grin?

I posed the question to the Home office a while ago and they said I needed to be an FAC holder and would need a UK import licence, and a US export licence.

Think you've left it way too late.

Firstly, the whole process is a nightmare for the uninitiated.
Secondly, licences are expensive.
Thirdly, the above, plus port duty etc generally wipes all savings.
Finally, you still run a risk of getting pulled on the way out the US and that will be a whole world of pain.

Bottom line, unless its unique, rare, or cost doesn't matter, I'd forget it.

To even buy a firearm from a gun dealer/shop etc. in most states you'd need to show proof of residency in the state for at least 90 days or have a non-resident alien visa. Even then you still need an export license to bring it out of the US, this can take weeks or even months to obtain.

AFAIK there isn't a UK import license required for privately owned firearms, check with the DTI import branch in Billingham to be sure.

Armed secret service agents are permitted by treaty,as are our pm 's guys over there....so i was led to understand...basically diplomatic imunity....as for them discharging thier firearms on uk soil if any incident did occur,well lets just say those people will become "unaccountable" as is the practice amoungst such visitors if such a happening occured...a world not explored or questioned by anyone thats a uk police officer........
