What is the temperature of the propellant gasses at the muzzle? Specifically Reloader 17 or Vit N140 fired in barrels 660mm and 715 mm long.

Why? I struggle to find the possible need for such information...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

It doesn't answer the question though does it, it only explains the process.
Anyway my deduction would be it is "kin hot", and reminds me of an old engineer saying " don't put your finger where you wouldn't put your willy" or words to that effect.
I'm sure the answer is out there somewhere.

Maybe he's doing a computational fluid dynamics study into the expansion and cooling of the emergent gases in order to make a better moderator, or contemplating what material best withstands high temperature gas erosion.

Well, that's why we needed to know anyway...

But for only two specific powders, from two specific barrel lengths....? Sounds like a point of diminishing returns....

The Badger is close…I need to find a high temperature grease to help form a gas seal, with an O ring, in a moderator. However the moderator and muzzle brake are of stainless steel and I have been advised that “copper slip” type high temp lubricants may react with the stainless.
Thanks for the other useful replies ..especially pe4king’s… At least you’ll get a DSO for that Kev!
